The new version of Map My Drive is finally here and it can be downloaded from the Apple App Store today! It’s a brand new app so it will need to be downloaded from the App Store rather than updating the existing app. You’ll also need to transfer your data over to the new app but luckily it’s a simple process and help guides are available. This new app has been completely rewritten from the ground up, contains a new look as well as some new features. Here are some of the highlights:
- A brand new look that still feels familiar
- Better performance
- New maps from Mapbox
- Google sign in is no longer required when sharing a link
- New map icons including dozens that can be chosen for a custom pin
- Tap and hold the map to drop a pin or tap and hold a pin to move it around
The reason for the complete rewrite and a new app altogether is that this will pave the way for more enhancements down the road, most notably an Android app. The architecture this is built on will allow for easier development of an iOS app and an Android app as well as allowing more flexibility for adding new features.
